Aims of the course

With the aim to promote actions for elderly persons’ health improvement and maintenance from a proactive attitude and a integral health concept (nutrition, healthy habits, physical activity, drug consumption, emotional health, attention and memory, accident prevention), this course makes the participants familiar with the necessary methodologies and tools in the training for health professionals (medicine, pharmacy, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy and social work) and volunteers working with elderly persons. From a multidisciplinary point of view, specific contents, didactic and applied communication methods will be developed.

Grants

This course which is entirely given at the Alicante Town University Venue, counts with 30 grants of complete fee exemption (free enrolment) offered by the Permanent University of the University of Alicante (UPUA). The grants are given, in case of the students according to their academic record, and in case of the professionals the criteria are unemployment, as well as in any case the enrolment order of the grant applicants, from the first enrolment day on.  

Material of the course

The students enrolled will receive, apart from resources which are available in multimedia form through the intranet of the Summer University Rafael Altamira for the purpose of training and practice, publications edited by the Main Institution for Education and Culture of the EU and by Mapfre.

Addressed to:

  • Health professionals in general (general practitioners, geriatricians, pharmacists, psychologists, nursing professionals in their different forms, social workers, physiotherapists).
  • Personnel in training (last year students of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy and social work)..
  • Volunteers who daily work with seniors.
