The subject deals with the historical context of the Cold War, from the inter-ally conferences of 1945 to the present-day crisis derived from the Ukraine war. From a chronological perspective, we will address the big international conflicts, as well as the building of peace. It explains how the bloc dynamics was shaped, and emphasis will be laid on the most important moments of international relations: the Korean war, Vietnam, the missile crisis in Cuba, Afghanistan, the disintegration of the USSR, the revolutions of Colours and the entry of China into the configuration of a New World Order. It deepens into the role played by Europe in the bipolar order emanated from World War II and in the new world order resulting from the collapse of the Soviet Union: the wars of the former Yugoslavia, the secessionist wars in the Caucasus, as well as the new transition to a new international order.

First aid is a set of urgent therapeutic measures which are applied to victims of accidents or diseases until a specialised treatment is available, thus reducing morbimortality. Injuries and health alterations are common in everyday life, and the correct implementation of first aid can make a difference in the recovery of a sick person or one hurt in an accident. The bodily changes which take place due to ageing may increase the risk of suffering health condition alterations. Physiopathology relates the normal functioning of the body with the changes caused by disease and the ability that the organism has to adapt to such changes.

This subject does not require previous knowledge or having attended Part 1 on the same topic. Our focus here will be placed on other genres and titles. John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock or Stanley Kubrick are undoubtedly some of the best directors in history… and their films are among the most outstanding Seventh Art works. There is life and enjoyment for cinephiles beyond these names, though. In this subject we enlarge the list of films that remained unseen and we propose you to remember or make known a whole series of films which do not appear on the canonic lists but deserve being revisited.

The cinema of the 60s, the 70s and the 80s presented a series of themes, situations and reflections which seem unthinkable today but which, until few years ago, were consumed in a natural way by the general public. We aim to make known (or revisit) a group of films that were controversial back in the day for various reasons (political, religious, sexual, violent...) and others which, despite not being provocative in the past, now they definitely are. The titles analysed here include moments which seem embarrassing for today's dominant worldview and which show how cinema, society and we ourselves have changed. Do you remember the films rated “S”?

This subject reinforces and develops "resilience" as the ability to activate strengths and protect personal integrity when facing adversities, building up from them. It seeks to study how to increase and improve quality of life, to be aware of the ageing process. To recognise one's strengths and clarify the meaning that people give to their own life. To make clear what the sense of life is and to have the capacity to adjust the "basic script" of their existence, to modify relationships, to reorganise their working world, to cope with adversities by incorporating new beliefs, objectives and goals. A resilient person is someone with the attitude to live through situations without being harmed, that is the objective; with an active-participatory teaching-learning method.

However, few (albeit brilliant) filmmakers around the world have been able to listen to them and transfer their deepest concerns and desires to the big screen. This course proposes a journey through a select sample of great films whose main richness is that they help to discover ourselves, to understand ourselves and to take better care of ourselves.
