Water Verses
Few poets have resisted writing stanzas where water acts as the main protagonist or leading element, since it is surrounded by such magical, philosophical, spiritual, aesthetic, sonorous and visual aspects. Therefore, exploring the fascination and seduction produced by words surrounding water and its poetry helps us to get closer to the much-needed appreciation towards an indispensable element for life, and also for the soul. Poetry expresses that which occurs in the most inner parts of our being, allowing it to overflow and be revealed as a conscious event in moment and time. Water is a part of our being and our planet, saturating and flowing through open spaces but also through those obscure and less visible. It is soul and essence.
We want to thank Aguas de Alicante for the opportunity they offered by allowing us to contribute with this poetry reading by the Verse to Verse Group during the celebration of the World Environment Day, where water is such a key element. With their help we will offer our poets' voices and their poetry in order to raise awareness of the significance of this resource and its necessary preservation, being a crucial part of the environment. Poetry leaves a mark on the soul; it soothes spirits and removes borders; it provides a course for knowledge, cultural integration and the appreciation of diversity, understanding and respect.
The environment in general and water in particular are lacking these values, as well as a hopeful future. A future we want to encourage through feelings, sometimes painful and deep, others romantic and utopic, as those expressed by great poets who have used water either as an excuse or a protagonist in its most diverse shapes.
Some of these feelings, built upon literary figures and poetic imagery, saturate stanzas and pierce our conscience, and will be found in today's "Poetry Reading: Water verses" by the voices who integrate the Verse by Verse Group.
