One of the most emblematic works by Jardiel Poncela: Usted tiene ojos de mujer fatal will be performed on November 14, in Xixona by the UPUA Theatre Group, under the direction of Paco Illán.
Usted tiene ojos de mujer fatal has been Jardiel Poncela's most performed play from its premiere in 1934 on. The playwright got his inspiration for this one-act farce from the novel Amor se escribe sin hache, which businessmen of that time rejected at the beginning. Poncela, who had been hired by Fox, had to go to America for working in Hollywood without having seen the premiere of this play in Valencia.
The falling of the curtain was a success in the playwright’s career and Usted tiene ojos de mujer fatal became the biggest success of the season. As Illán says, “in the play the famous Don Juan myth is recreated from an ironic perspective, although not without humour, which characterizes Poncela’s dramatic play”.
